CompanyWendy's Restaurants

Sweet and adorable, with her blond hair tied into fat pigtails, little Wendy became the trademark for Wendy's restaurants. Founder Dave Thomas used his young daughter, Wendy, as his initial inspiration -- he even named the restaurant after her! But the company mascot more closely resembled Pippi Longstocking, the adventurous waif from children's literature.

Wendy reigned as the fairest princess of hamburger heaven until Clara Peller pushed her way into the top spot in 1983 by shouting, "Where's the Beef?"

(A brief historical nugget: Dave Thomas is the man credited with convincing Colonel Harland Sanders to open a chicken-only restaurant.)

Here's the original Wendy's Wendy in three different colors.
